It was a perfectly sunny day this morning when the RSAC crew met in Brighton to load their kit onto the Channel Divers hardboat. Diving in three pairs we descended onto the enormous wreck of the Stanhope. Broken into bits, but with huge sections of the wreck standing about 8 meters above the seabed.
Visibility was reasonably good at around 5 meters, which allowed us to see the torches of other divers around the wreck. There was plenty of life, with all the usual creatures hiding and generally being confused at our presence. Jo valiantly managed to save a crab caught up in fishing wire, who will now live to claw another day.
We had a great time, but there was more to explore than time allowed. Before we knew it we were back on the dive boat, enjoying tea & cake and exaggerating the size of the sea life we had seen.
The second dive was a murky drift along the sea bed, following a reef. It was pleasantly littered with starfish and normal fish. After surfacing, by the time we had de-kitted, we were nearly back at the harbour. Soon to be on our way home after a great day's diving with fantastic weather all day.
